Welcome to Let’s Talk Public Health!

It has been a minute since my last letter. Several things have happened, but here are my top ten highlights:
  1. We began offering consulting services. We’ve helped two federal health agencies, two local health departments, and two small businesses with their communication, marketing, branding, storytelling, and engagement. See what we do. >>
  2. We opened the Store. Public health professionals need to be visible outside of public health emergencies, so we launched the Let’s Talk Public Health Store. We design and sell eco-conscious products that are sleek, unique, and durable. Browse our selection. >>
  3. We relaunched the Experiential Learning Program. It’s our goal to provide public health students with opportunities to expand their public health communication skills in a supportive, collaborative, and creative environment. With the ELP, we provide internship and fellowship experiences for undergraduate and graduate students related to communication and marketing, media and productions, and product and resource development. Learn more. >>
  4. We soft-launched the Academy. We also want to help public health professionals expand the reach and impact of their work, so we created our Academy. For now, we have digital downloads available, and coming soon are courses, coaching, and workshops to build skills, make connections, and optimize efforts. Stay tuned. >>
  5. We started a YouTube channel. We have some lofty goals for this channel (more to come). For now, you can look at the two series we’ve launched: Let’s Talk Public Health This Way for innovative examples of health communication and On the Blog for information and takeaways from our recent blog posts. Browse our channel. >>
  6. We joined TikTok. We’re still testing the waters here. But tune into our short videos for quick tips, recommendations, or updates about health communication and public health. Some are funny, some are serious, and some might even be considered unhinged (LOL). Open TikTok. >>
  7. We “archived” our Twitter and Facebook. We found that our engagement was highest on LinkedIn and Instagram and that we could connect well with all of our intended audiences on those platforms. So make sure you’re following us there and on TikTok and YouTube (see links above). Follow us on LinkedIn. >> Follow us on Instagram. >>
  8. We published a LinkedIn newsletter. Our new LinkedIn newsletter, LTPH: Unscripted, is a monthly short-read that connects news and updates in health communication and public health with the goings-on of pop culture. I think it’s imperative that you know the contending title for this newsletter was LTPH: Unhinged. Read the first edition. >>
  9. We expanded the Library. We’ve been going ham on resource development in the past year. Do you need help with:
    1. Identifying relevant public health and health care observances? See our calendar. >>
    2. Creating materials and messages that drive behavior change? Reference our Funnel. >>
    3. Finding conferences, summits, and other professional development events for health communication? Check this blog. >>
  10. We did our first social media giveaway on Instagram. For I Heart Public Health Month (February), we hosted a giveaway to show public health professionals some love and support other public health merchandise sellers. We provided winners gift cards for a purchase of up to $50 from our store and other public health merch sellers. Get the giveaway details. >>

Whether you’re new here or returning, thank you for your time, attention, and support!
Sincerely,
Monique Thornton, MPH
Founder, CEO
