Tell us about you…
Hi, My name is Najib. I’m a Health Studies major at the University of Washington. I wanted to join the ELP because I wanted to have a better understanding of health studies in a professional space. I wanted to see firsthand what that looks like. My goals for the ELP were to sharpen my skills with video, in terms of coming up with ideas and concepts, storyboarding, editing, etc.
Tell us about what you worked on…
I worked on two projects mainly. Two different videos. One was a video tailored toward public health professionals, encouraging them to have self-affirmations with the work they do. The other video was to highlight the discrepancies in pay and leadership positions that exist between women and men in the profession of public health. My key tasks were to come up with the videos, I was provided with the idea and I worked on the videos, from the colors to the sounds, and everything else that went into the video production. I created these two videos, which were published on the LTPH blog, and posted on the LTPH YouTube channel. I also wrote a poem that was published on the LTPH website.
Tell us what you learned…
I learned how to edit and create videos, and how to apply these videos towards a specific target audience. I learned a lot about how the public health system works in both private and federal settings.
Tell us what the best part was…
I enjoyed learning from Monique and hearing about her experiences in the public health profession.
Tell us about your future…
Next on my journey is occupational therapy school, and to continue writing poetry. I think my ELP participation will come in handy through the video editing and the marketing knowledge I’ve gained. To the future ELP participants, try your best and give every project all your effort!
