Public health is facing a huge trust problem. The very people we are supposed to be protecting don’t trust us. If they don’t trust us, then they won’t listen to us. Plain and simple.
What does this have to do with public health merchandise?
Wearing public health merchandise items helps to give public health a face and a voice. Yours. It helps people realize that we are not some far removed force only operating in the shadows. It also helps public health be visible everyday, versus only being visible when there is a pandemic. It helps to demonstrate the breadth and ubiquity of public health and how it touches almost every other industry.
We have a long road to building back trust after the COVID-19 and mpox public health emergencies – and let’s not forget the undeniable wrongs and harm that public health has contributed to in the past.
Represent public health and help us create a world where everyone understands what public health is and why public health matters!
