I have learned the importance of accuracy in showcasing public health information. I gained the knowledge of working with a small team and adjusting to working with a different time zone. Nicole Vicente. Experiential Learning Program Intern, Spring 2024.

Tell us about you...

My name is Nicole Vicente, and I am senior graduating from the University of Washington Bothell with my Bachelors in Health Studies. I wanted to join the ELP because I have a passion for marketing and the determination to apply for my public health degree through public health education. My goals were to adjust to joining a public health organization, and create products on social media to tend to public health students, health professionals, and health organizations.

Tell us about what you worked on...

I was asked to create a blog, a TikTok post, an Instagram carousel post, and a LinkedIn post. My key tasks were to stay in communication with Monique, the CEO, and David, the Chief Marketing Officer, so that my ideas were shared with them and so they were able to provide guidance.

Tell us what you learned...

I have gained many skills during my time in the ELP, such as professionalism and public health communication. I have learned the importance of accuracy in showcasing public health information. I gained the knowledge of working with a small team and adjusting to working with a different time zone.

Tell us what the best part was...

My best part in the ELP was communicating with Monique and David. They are some of the most dedicated and supportive individuals I have ever met in the public health industry, and I aspire to learn more about their important values in healthcare. During this program, I got COVID for the 3rd time this year and had to be hospitalized. Monique showed great consideration and within the timeframe, I was able to complete all my requirements.

Tell us about your future...

I am planning on submitting my grad school application for a Masters in Anesthesia in the next few days or so. Although the art of anesthesia is not technically related to public health, it is the things I have learned in this program and obtaining my degree that will help me communicate with my patients with more humility and respect. The advice I would give to prospective ELP participants is to embrace the experience and be as creative as possible.
