Tell us about you…I’m Amina Saleban, about to graduate from the University of Washington Bothell with a degree in Public Health. I joined Let’s Talk Public Health because I’m passionate about how public health impacts communities and wanted to learn more about how these programs work. The ELP stood out to me as a great opportunity to grow as a leader and make a real impact in the field. My main goals were to improve my leadership skills, understand public health challenges better, and connect with others who share my passion. I hope to use these experiences to help create public health initiatives that truly benefit underserved communities. Tell us about what you worked on…I worked on creating carousel posts and a meme focused on culturally sensitive communication about nutrition. My key tasks included researching how to communicate effectively about nutrition in a way that respects different cultures, designing the carousel images, and crafting talking tips that are easy to understand and helpful. The main goal was to create content that would educate and engage the audience in a respectful and meaningful way. Tell us what you learned…Through my work with Let’s Talk Public Health, I learned how to create engaging content like carousel posts and memes, and how to communicate important ideas in a simple and clear way. I also gained a deeper understanding of how to discuss health topics in a manner that respects different cultures, which is crucial in the field of public health. Tell us what the best part was…I loved how flexible and understanding Monique and David were throughout the program. My favorite part of the ELP was creating carousel posts, especially seeing them shared on Instagram. It was really rewarding to see my work make an impact and engage with the audience. Tell us about your future…Next on my journey is to apply to dental hygiene school and continue to work with an organization that helps local youth in my community. The things I learned from the ELP, like how to communicate better and work with different cultures, will be really helpful. My advice for anyone thinking about joining the ELP is to be open to learning and make the most of the chances you get to create and try new things. It’s a great experience that will help you both in your career and personally. By: Amina Saleban
